Thirsty

Yesterday, I had an appointment with the Renal Clinic - it has been 17 years since my kidneys first started failing. I was an exchange student in England at the University of London when things first started going wrong, the first few years were very dismal and I spent months in the hospital but luckily only had to spend a few weeks on dialysis. Over the years the doctors have watched my blood tests closely and changed and added medications often, the results of which have been, I think, pretty impressive. My kidneys are currently working at 25% which is up 6% over 2 years ago when they were at 19% (dialysis usually starts at 15%).

I have been on fluid restriction.....forever, and because of this my mind is always dwelling on how thirsty I am. Well, yesterday they said I was dehydrated and I should drink more - whoo hoo that is music to my ears! Last night I had a big glass of water sitting on the coffee table while I was watching tv and........you guessed it, I looked up and there was Kellie drinking from my glass. I left that glass there and got a bottle of water for myself. I should have known not to use a glass, I think she thinks that I am setting out water for her conveniently around the house, and isn't it nice that the glass is tall enough so she doesn't have to bend over to drink!

The most embarrassing time she did this was when I had company and she hopped up on the coffee table and drank some ice-tea from my Aunts glass (yes Kellie likes ice tea too). That's what happens when you have no rules and let your "kids" run wild : )

Congrats on being dehydrated... I believe that's the first time anyone has ever written that sentence... But seriously, glad to hear your health is OK.

And I'm amazed that Kellie is nimble enough to drink out of a glass without tipping it over. That's quite the talent.
